RAMALLAH, January 14, 2018 (WAFA) – News about clashes in the village of Nabi Saleh as well as news about the highly anticipated Palestinian Liberation Organization’s Central Council meeting dominated the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.
Al-Quds, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli forces Saturday blocked access to Nabi Saleh, to the north of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, and declared the area a closed military zone.
The three dailies said dozens of Palestinians suffocated on tear gas and two were hit by rubber-coated metal bullets in the clashes that broke out in support of Ahed Tamimi, the 16-year-old girl who was arrested last month for slapping an Israeli soldier who raided her home and village.
The PLO Central Council’s highly anticipated meeting received initial coverage in the dailies. They said the Executive Committee reaffirmed its rejection of a state with temporary borders.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Mahmoud Abbas is going to deliver an important speech during the meeting, which is going to be held on Sunday in the city of Ramallah to discuss adopting a new Palestinian strategy following the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The papers reported on the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs saying in a statement that the Israeli settlements undermine the two-state solution.
