Israel bans elderly woman from Al-Aqsa Mosque

JERUSALEM, January 13, 2018 (WAFA) – Israel banned 61-year-old Amira al-Haj Khalil from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City for 15 days after she raised the Palestinian flag during a protest after the Friday prayer, according to sources.

Khalil, a resident of East Jerusalem, took part in a protest inside the Mosque compound against US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital when she was stopped by Israeli police for raising the Palestinian.

The police detained Khalil as she was leaving the compound, seized the flag and took her to an interrogation center in the city. Police ordered Khalil not to enter Al-Aqsa Mosque for two weeks.

Meanwhile, police detained as well five foreigners and a Jerusalemite youth after Friday’s prayer for shouting Muslim slogans at Al-Aqsa Mosque during the protest.

The six were taken to an Israeli police station pending further action against them.
