Newspapers Review: Killing of settler focus of dailies

 

RAMALLAH, January 10, 2018 (WAFA) – The shooting attack near Nablus that left an Israeli settler dead and Israeli army reprisal against the civilian Palestinian population were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Wednesday.

They said the Israeli army raided a number of Palestinian villages in the area after closing all roads and barring movement of cars and people while armed Israeli settlers went on a revenge rampage attacking Palestinians in their homes, cars and on the roads causing injuries, damage and terrorizing the population.

They said a number of Palestinians were injured in clashes with Israeli soldiers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

In other news, the papers reported as well on Israeli plans to build thousands of new housing units in the illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

Al-Ayyam said the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem started groundwork on building a bridge on private Palestinian land in Silwan, an East Jerusalem neighborhood, to connect a section of the village were settlers had set up base to Al-Buraq, which Israel refers to as the Western Wall.

It said the US administration is once again talking about the Palestinian school curriculum accusing it of including incitement against Israel.

It said a senior Hamas official in Gaza was seriously injured when a bullet accidently went off his gun and hit him in the head.

Al-Quds said Israeli police prevented a press conference by Palestinians in East Jerusalem. It said police raided Addar hotel in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, banned the press conference on Jerusalem and detained some of the participants.

It quoted Palestinian officials talking about their expectations from the upcoming meeting of the Palestinian Central Council.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on the telephone call between President Mahmoud Abbas and Saudi King Salman.

It also said Sweden has warned of the consequences of the US cutting aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

The papers reported as well on the new scandal facing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following publication of a conversation his son has had with a friend.
