QALQILYA, January 4, 2018 (WAFA) – Following an apparent complaint by Israeli settlers, the Israeli army ordered on Thursday the Kufr Thulth village council to stop work on a road that links their village to a nearby one, according a council official.
Zaki Omar, spokesman for Kufr Thulth village, located southeast of Qalqilya in the north of the West Bank, told WAFA that the council was surprised when the Israeli army ordered it to stop work on the road a day after they started maintenance work.
He said the council began work on the road located in Area C of the West Bank, which is under full Israeli military control, after the Palestinian Authority‘s Civil Affairs obtained permission from the so-called Civil Administration, an arm of the Israeli military government that runs the West Bank, to do maintenance work on the road.
He said workers began on Wednesday to pour ready mix for a sidewalk in preparation to re-pave the road, but that they were surprised when they got to work on Thursday to find out that the setters have stolen all their equipment and that they handing in the area when the army showed up and ordered them to stop work.
