RAMALLAH, December 26, 2017 (WAFA) – Each of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused their main front page story of their Tuesday issue on a different subject.
Al-Ayyam’s main front page story focused on the verbal assault by an Israeli lawmaker on the families of Palestinian prisoners who were on their way to visit their sons in an Israeli prison.
This story was also reported on the front page of al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds daily, which made Israeli settlement plans in East Jerusalem its main front page story.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida also reported on Israeli plans to enforce Israeli law on West Bank settlements, which was also reported in the other dailies, but opted to make the meeting between President Mahmoud Abbas and the Japanese Foreign Minister in Ramallah as its main front page. The other two papers also reported on this story.
The three dailies said an Israeli military court remanded by four days Ahed Tamimi, the 17-year-old Palestinian girl from the village of Nabi Saleh, near Ramallah, who stood up to Israeli soldiers raiding her family home. Tamimi\s mother and cousin, who were also detained, were also remanded for four days.
The dailies also highlighted Guatemala’s decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem following suit of the United States. Al-Ayyam said the president of Guatemala, who is facing corruption charges, decides to move embassy to Jerusalem. Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Malki describing this decision as despicable and appalling.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Fatah leaders saying US threats against the Palestinian leadership are not going to deter it.
Al-Ayyam quoted Hamas officials in Gaza saying that the government will not be allowed to work in Gaza before resolving the issue of the employees.
Al-Quds said fanatic Israeli settlers occupied a Palestinian shop in the Muslim Quarter of the old city of Jerusalem.
It said the US administration bought a hotel in Jerusalem in preparation to move its embassy to the city.
It also quoted Pope Francis calling in his Christmas sermon at the Vatican for peace in Jerusalem and resumption of Palestinian-Israeli negotiations.
