Euro-Med: Israeli lawmaker‘s assault on families of Palestinian prisoners is disrespectful, incitement

GENEVA, December 25, 2017 (WAFA) - Israeli parliament (Knesset) member Oren Hazan‘s treatment of families of Palestinian prisoners is disrespectful and an incitement, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor said on Monday.

Hazan has deliberately posted a video of himself stopping a bus carrying families of Palestinian detainees and assaulting them while on their way to visit their detained children in an Israeli prison, it said in a statement.

"The incident, which took place on Monday, is extremely disrespectful," said Euro-Med.

"Posting the video on social media outlets and boasting about deliberately insulting, humiliating and intimidating Palestinian civilians is nothing short of incitement," the Euro-Med adds.

"This degrading act by the Israeli Knesset member aims only to further harm the dignity of Palestinian civilians and serves as propaganda for political gains."

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor will take the matter seriously and discuss it with the International Committee of the Red Cross’ (ICRC) head of the Middle East and Near East Operations Division in Geneva as soon as possible, it said.

The ICRC and the Palestinian Authority have also condemned Hazan‘s assault on the Palestinian families.
