%60 of minor detainees experienced severe physical assault by Israeli soldiers

RAMALLAH, December 24, 2017 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) Sunday said that %60 of minors detained by Israel in the last three weeks following US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, experienced severe physical assault in jail.

PPS said in a press release that all detained minors’ rights were violated and they all suffered psychological torture. “Israel adopts the same practices on minors that are used with adult detainees. Soldiers kick the detainees with their heavy boots and rifles’ butts including on their heads.”

It added that Israel commits severe violations against minor detainees such as arrest them in the middle of the night and transfer them to interrogation and detention centers.

Israeli soldiers also deny minor detainees food and water, use degrading terms and profanities when addressing them, terrorize them, use force and threats to get confessions and force the minor detainees to sign testimonies in Hebrew, a language they do not understand.

Moreover, minors are denied parents and lawyers’ presence during interrogation, which constitutes a severe violation of minors’ detention law.

PPS said Israel detained a total of 163 minors at least since US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the start of protests on December 6. This brings up the number of minors detained in Israeli jails to 350, in both Ofer and Megiddo prisons.
