JEDDAH, December 19, 2017 (WAFA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) said in a statement Tuesday, the failure of the United Nations Security Council to adopt a draft resolution on Jerusalem undermines the peace process and gives a green light to further Israeli violations in the occupied territories.
“Failing to adopt this resolution contradicts international consensus and the resolutions of the international community on preserving the historical, legal and political status of the occupied city of Jerusalem,” the statement said.
OIC commended the position of the Security Council member states that supported the draft resolution, and called on all countries to respect the resolutions of the UN Security Council on occupied Jerusalem and on the recognition of an independent Palestinian state.
OIC also declared support for Palestine’s announcement that it is going to call for an extraordinary session for the United Nations General Assembly under the term “United for Peace” in order to vote on the same draft resolution that the United States has vetoed.
Earlier today, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Riyad Malki said the UN General Assembly is going to meet on Tuesday to vote on a draft resolution affirming the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.
