New York, December 18, 2017 (WAFA) - The United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley said that the United States will veto the draft resolution rejecting US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, because it does not serve the Middle East peace process.
She accused the United Nations of double standards, and said that resolution 2334 issued by the Security Council last year on settlements, is an obstacle to the peace process, and that the error committed by the previous US administration to abstain from voting on the resolution will not be repeated.
Haley said the draft resolution is an obstacle to peace, because it views settlements as an obstacle to peace, even though the United States has often objected to Israeli settlements policies.
She added that the failure of peace efforts is not because of settlements, but because Palestinian leaders have rejected several peace proposals over the years.
"We are waiting for the negotiations to decide. The transfer of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem does not mean we recognize it as the capital of Israel. We have to bring the Palestinians and the Israelis to the negotiating table," she said.
