RAMALLAH, December 17, 2017 (WAFA) – News about the funerals of the Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip hit the front pages of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Sunday.
Al-Ayyam, al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds reported in a headline that Palestinians in the Hebron-area town of Beit Ula and in Jerusalem’s Anata village laid to rest on Saturday two residents shot dead by Israeli soldiers the day before.
The papers said that thousands of people participated in the funeral held on Saturday for two Gazans, one of whom is disabled, who were shot dead by Israeli soldiers after they opened fire at protesters near the border fence.
Protests against US President Donald Trump’s Jerusalem announcement and clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces kept erupting throughout the West Bank cities and the Gaza Strip, according to the newspapers.
A statement by Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam. He said that Palestinians will not accept any changes to the 1967 border of East Jerusalem.
The three newspapers said that President Mahmoud Abbas met with Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani in Qatar to discuss Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Al-Quds said the Palestinian border authority said Rafah border crossing with Egypt will be open in both directions for four days to allow humanitarian cases to leave and enter Gaza after the Egyptian authorities agreed to reopen the crossing on Saturday.
According to the three newspapers, marches in solidarity with Palestine and in protest of Trump’s Jerusalem announcement continue to take place in several citric around the world.
