KHAN YOUNES, December 7, 2017 (WAFA) – A young man was injured and others suffocated by teargas shot at them by Israeli forces, during clashes which erupted near the Gaza-Israel border fence to the east of Khan Younes city in the Gaza Strip, according to local sources.
Soldiers stationed at borderline watchtowers opened live fire and teargas canisters to disperse the protesters, who were expressing their anger against the recent announcement by US President Donald Trump in which he declared Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
At least one protester was injured by live fire in his foot, and was moved to hospital for medical treatment. Others suffocated after inhaling teargas shot at them by the soldiers.
Clashes also erupted between protesters and Israeli soldiers near the Gaza-Israel border fence, to the east of al-Bureij refugee camp in the central Strip. There were reports of suffocation cases due to the use of teargas by the Israeli forces.
This comes in the midst of a general strike that is being observed since early Thursday morning in most of the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, in protest against Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
