Two Palestinian detainees on hunger strike to protest their administrative detention

RAMALLAH, March 22, 2017 (WAFA) – Two Palestinian administrative detainees in Israeli jails recently started hunger strike in protest against their continuing detention without charge or trial, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said on Wednesday.

Ra’fat Shalash, 34, from Beit Awwa in the Hebron area, started hunger strike on March 16 after an Israeli military court renewed his six-month administrative detention for the third consecutive time.

Shalash, married with three children, is a former prisoner and had served seven years in Israeli jails. He also has two brothers serving time in prison for resisting the Israeli occupation.

Akram Fseisi, 34, from Idna in the Hebron district, was arrested on March 19, 2016. He has served three consecutive administrative detention terms each for six months.

Fseisi, married with four children, started his hunger strike on March 19, the third since his arrest. The first time lasted for 58 days and the second for 70 days, all demanding his release.

He had served five and a half years as a political prisoner in Israeli jails.
