Egyptian presidency says Palestinian cause a top priority

CAIRO, March 20, 2017 (WAFA) – The Egyptian presidency stressed on Monday that the Palestinian cause will always be on top of its priorities.

“President Sisi affirmed that the Arab stance towards the Palestinian cause is unified and is based on the Arab Peace Initiative, which continues to be a main pillar in search of a just solution," spokesman for Egyptian presidency Alaa Yousef said in a statement after a meeting between President Mahmoud Abbas and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo.

He added that President Sisi is working effortlessly to reach a comprehensive peace deal that will lead to an independent state of Palestinian on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Yousef pointed out that President Abbas hailed the Egyptian efforts to reach a peaceful settlement to the Palestinian cause as well its political actions to provide protection to the Palestinian people.

President Abbas stressed keenness to consult and discuss the recent Palestinian developments with President Sisi, days before the Arab Summit Meeting scheduled to be held in Jordan later this month, Yousef said.

The spokesman added that President Abbas updated the Egyptian president with his recent contacts with the new U.S. administration during which he showed commitment to reach an inclusive solution to the conflict with Israel.

"President Sisi also affirmed that the Palestinian cause will be on the table during his discussions with the U.S. president Donald Trump in Washington next month," Yousef said.

Abbas arrived in Cairo on Sunday after he received an invitation from Egypt‘s Sisi for talks ahead of the Arab Summit Meeting to be held in Amman later this month.
