Israel issues administration detention orders against 35 prisoners

RAMALLAH, March 13, 2017 (WAFA) – Israeli authorities have issued administration detention orders against 35 Palestinian prisoners in March, said Monday Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

The PPS attorney, Mahmoud al-Halabi, said that since the first of March Israeli authorities have issued administration detention orders against 35 prisoners, including a former female prisoner who was detained on February 27.

Al-Halabi added 13 of the administration detention orders were issued against prisoners detained for the first time or re-detained after their release.

Administrative detention allows for internment without charge or trial for six-month intervals that can be renewed indefinitely. The policy has been strongly criticized by the international community as well as both Israeli and Palestinian rights activists.

Many Palestinians including Muhammad Allan, Khader Adnan and Mohammad Qiq, have gone on hunger strike to protest their illegal administrative detention and demand an end for this policy, which violates international law.

According to a statistic by the Palestinian Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, the total number of Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli prisons is 6,500, with 536 of them being administrative detainees.
