QALQILIA, March 3, 2017 (WAFA) – A Palestinian journalist Friday was shot and injured in the head with a rubber-coated steel bullet as Israeli forces suppressed a peaceful anti-settlement rally in the village of Kufr Qadoom to the east of Qalqilia, according to a local activist.
Coordinator of the popular resistance committee in the village, Murad Ishtawi, said Israeli soldiers fired a rubber bullet toward a journalist who works for Palestine TV, striking him in his forehead. The journalist was identified as Ahmad Shawar.
The paramedic crews present at the site provided the journalist with medical treatment.
No other injuries or arrests were reported.
The Palestinian Ministry of Information documented 173 cases of Israeli violations against Palestinian journalists in 2016, according to a report published early January, 2017.
The violations include arrest, shooting, beating, restriction on movement and travel, holding journalists at checkpoints, raiding of media institutions and a range of other violations.
