Egypt opens Rafah crossing for third day for humanitarian cases only

RAFAH, February 13, 2017 (WAFA) – Egyptian authorities continued to open the Rafah crossing in both directions for the third day in a row for humanitarian cases only, WAFA correspondent said on Monday.

Among those who were allowed to travel were Palestinians who require urgent medical intervention, students studying abroad and holders of residency papers of other countries.

A total of 56 buses carrying electric generators, cement, fish and construction equipments for Gaza’s private sector were allowed into the Gaza Strip.

Six hundred Palestinian passengers travelled to Egypt through the Rafah crossing, while 270 passengers were allowed in Gaza after they were stuck on the Egyptian side of the border.

The Rafah crossing is the only crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip and it has been closed by the Egyptian authorities after claims that Hamas, which has taken over the Gaza Strip in 2007, is linked to outlawed Islamic groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood Movement.
