TULKAREM, February 10, 2017 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, Global Affairs Canada and the High Judicial Council Thursday joined Tulkarem Governorate officials and community members to inaugurate the newly operated courthouse facility.

The newly constructed 8,900 square meter courthouse has been designed, constructed and equipped based on best practices and international standards of safety, functionality and accessibility.
To enhance the security of all parties, judges, the public and the accused, have separate access points and corridors for movement. To ensure the sustainability of the new courthouse, Canada is also supporting capacity building in facility management and court administration.
The new facility will contribute to the improvement of effectiveness and efficiency of the judiciary in Tulkarem in delivering services to the public, and thus continue to enhancing public trust in the justice system.
The inauguration was attended by Representative of Canada to the Palestinian Authority Douglas Scott Proudfoot, Chief Justice Chancellor Imad Saleem Sa’ad, Minister of Justice Ali Abu Dyak, Attorney General Ahmad Barak, Tulkarem Governor Issam Abu Baker, and representatives from the local community.
“Canada recognizes the significance of the justice and rule of law as one of the pillars of any government, and we are proud that Canada is helping to build the foundations of strong justice system so Palestinians can live in peace and security,” said Proudfoot.
“We are thankful for all those who have contributed to accomplish this monument to Justice, which aligns with the strategic objectives of the High Judicial Council to provide a favorable judicial environment,” said Sa’ad.
This project is part of Canada’s broader support of the Palestinian Justice Sector. Canada has recently supported the Attorney General’s Office in the development of the capacity of the Public Prosecutors offices, as well as collaborating with the Ministries of Interior and Justice to develop forensics investigative capabilities consistent with international scientific standards.
All of these projects will support the pursuit of justice in line with human rights.
