RAMALLAH, February 9, 2017 (WAFA) – The Foreign Ministry condemned on Thursday Israeli plans to build 1162 housing units in West Bank settlements and another 181 units in East Jerusalem settlements.
A statement by the ministry said Israel has increased what it described as its “rampant” settlement expansion plans since US President Donald Trump has come to office on January 20.
“Israeli arrogance has reached an unprecedented level of insolence, disrespect of and disregard to the United Nations, its organizations and resolutions,” said the ministry.
“Israel, as an occupying power, is not only trying to unilaterally decide on the fate of negotiated final status issues, but also wants to impose these facts on the will of the international community,” it added.
It called on the UN “to defend itself against attempts to discredit it,” and on the United States “to come out of its deplorable silence to dispel doubts regarding the truth about its position toward Israel’s grave crimes and violations of international law.”
The Foreign Ministry warned that Israel was using this US silence “as a cover for its colonialist and expansionist plans that are bound to undermine chances of peace by eradicating the two-state solution on the ground.”
