RAMALLAH, February 2, 2017 (WAFA) – the Israeli Prisons Service (IPS) is getting ready to launch a “major offensive” against Palestinian detainees at Naqab prison, south of Israel, following a day of tension in the compound, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said on Thursday.
Tension was high on Wednesday in both Nafha and Naqab prisons in southern Israel as reports surfaced that in two separate incidents Palestinian prisoners have slashed prison guards with a blade.
Issa Qaraqe, head of the Palestinian Prisoners‘ Affairs commission, said in a statement that the IPS began punitive measures against the prisoners after the alleged attacks.
The PPS warned that the escalation at the prisons and illtreatment of prisoners could lead to an inevitable outburst of the situation at the prisons.
