RAMALLAH, January 28, 2017 (WAFA) – Releasing the bodies of two Palestinians, including a female teenager, who were killed by Israeli forces in June 2016 and January following alleged attacks hit the front page headlines in the three Palestinian dailies on Saturday.
The three dailies said Israel released the corpses of Majd al-Khadour, 18, for burial in her hometown of Bani Naim in the southern West Bank district of Hebron and Nidal Mahdawi, 44, who was laid to his rest in the northern West Bank city of Tulkarm.
Khadour was killed by Israeli forces on June 24 following an alleged attempted vehicular attack after his vehicle crashed into an Israeli vehicle, lightly injuring two Israelis near the entrance to Kiryat Arba settlement.
Mahdawi was killed by Israeli troops on January 17 after he allegedly attempted to carry out a stabbing attack at a Tulkarem-area checkpoint.
Al-Quds, on the other hand, highlighted the weekly Friday demonstrations and Israeli army raid on Jenin refugee camp.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said three Palestinians were shot and injured by live ammunition fired by Israeli soldiers during a raid into Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank.
Al-Quds added a number of Palestinians suffocated as Israeli forces showered the Friday protests in various West Bank areas with tear gas canisters.
Al-Ayyam reported in this regard a number of Palestinians were shot and injured and others detained by Israeli forces during clashes.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has approved plans to build 68 new housing units in Ofra settlement in Ramallah district.
Al-Quds highlighted calls by some Israeli lawmakers that the UN headquarters in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukabber should be vacated as a prelude for the construction of a new Israeli settlement.
The dailies added the Non-Aligned Movement vehemently condemned Israeli settlement construction.
The dailies also covered latest official US statements on the relocation of the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
They reported US President Donald Trump as stating it was too early to talk about his campaign promise to move the US embassy to Jerusalem.
Spotlighting Hamas deputy chief Ismail Haniyeh’s remarks praising ties with Egypt, al-Ayyam reported him as stating Hamas has opened a new page with Cairo and Hamas delegation had a series of fruitful meetings with Egyptian intelligence.
