Weather forecast: low pressure to affect region

RAMALLAH, January 25, 2017 (WAFA) – Weather on Wednesday is partially cloudy to cloudy with another rise in temperature, to approach seven degrees Celsius above annual average. A slight chance of scattered showers is expected on some areas, according to the Palestine Meteorological Department (PMD.)

Wind is southeasterly to southwesterly, light to moderate. Sea waves are light to moderate.

A low pressure accompanied by a cold air mass is expected to affect the region on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, with a significant drop in temperatures, to be a little bit higher than annual average.

Rain, thunderstorms and occasional hail are expected on some areas at evening and night hours. Wind is expected to be northwesterly to southwesterly, moderate to active, and sea waves are expected to medium to high.

Another drop in temperatures is expected on Friday, approaching two degrees Celsius below annual average. Rain, accompanied with thunderstorms and occasional hail, is expected on most areas. Wind is northwesterly to westerly, active and windy at times, where wind speed can reach about 70 km/hr. Sea waves are wavy.

A further drop in temperatures is expected for Saturday, to be five degrees Celsius below annual average. Rain, accompanied with thunderstorms and occasional hail, is expected on some area.

A chance of snowfall is expected on mountains over 1000 above sea level. Wind is expected to be northwesterly to westerly, moderate to active, while sea waves are expected to be moderate to high.

PMD warns people against sliding off roads due to hail and snow, and low horizontal visibility due to the fog and clouds touching the surface. Citizens are also warned against the formation of floods in villages and low areas, and the intense speed of wind.
