UMM AL-HIRAN, THE NAQAB, January 24, 2017 (WAFA) – Yacoub Abu al-Qeean, 47, who was shot and killed by Israeli police last week in the Naqab Arab village of Umm al-Hiran, was laid to rest in his hometown after police conceded a High Court order to free the corpse.
Police has been holding Abu al-Qeean’s body since he was shot dead on Wednesday when residents confronted state plans to demolish part of the village.
They claimed Abu al-Qeean rammed his car into policemen killing one even though an autopsy report and family have challenged these allegations.
Hundreds of people participated in Abu al-Qeean’s funeral shouting slogans denouncing the Israeli police’s action.
The killing and demolitions have prompted strong protests by the Palestinians in Israel.
