Presidential spokesman calls on Security Council to implement anti-settlement resolution

RAMALLAH, January 22, 2017 (WAFA) – Presidential spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh condemned on Sunday the decision of the Israeli authorities to build 560 new housing units in Ramot and Ramat Shlomo settlements in East Jerusalem.

Abu Rudeineh said that the Israeli decision represents an obvious challenge of the United Nations Security Council and its resolution No. 2334, which emphasized the illegality of Israeli settlements.

“We call on Security Council for urgent action based on resolution 2334, to put an end to the extremist policy of the Israeli government which is destroying the two-state solution,” Abu Rudeineh said.

This came after Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem approved the construction of 650 new settlement units in Ramot and Ramat Shlomo settlements in occupied East Jerusalem.
