Wholesale price index up in 2016 compared to 2015, says statistics bureau

RAMALLAH, January 19, 2017 (WAFA) - The overall Wholesale Price Index (WPI) in Palestine increased in 2016 by 1.62% compared with 2015, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said on Thursday.

The increase was due rise in prices of fishing goods by 17.20%, agriculture goods by 2.45% and prices of goods in manufacturing group by 1.25%, while prices of goods in mining and quarrying group decreased by 0.76%.

Prices of local products increased by 2.67% and prices of imported products increased by 0.70% compared with the previous year, said the PCBS.

Data for WPI for fourth quarter 2016 showed a decrease 2.28% compared with the third quarter of the same year.

WPI for local products decreased by 4.02% compared with the third quarter but it increased for imported products by 0.68% for the same period.
