RAMALLAH, January 11, 2017 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah Wednesday warned of an explosion in the security situation in the entire region if the new US administration moves its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Hamdallah said this during a meeting at his Ramallah office with Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende, according to a statement issued by the prime minister‘s office.
Hamdallah, said the statement, called on the international community to take a firm stand against indications by the new American administration regarding moving the embassy to Jerusalem, warning “of an explosion in the security situation in the entire region if the US carries out this step.”
The prime minister had earlier met US Consul General in Jerusalem Donald Blome.
However, a statement by his office on the meeting said only that Hamdallah discussed with Blome "the latest political and economic developments."
It also said that the premier called on the US “to keep its role in supporting the two-state solution and to take practical steps to support the peace process, in addition to forcing Israel to stop all violations, particularly its home demolition and collective punishment policy.”
