GDP up in third quarter, says statistics bureau

RAMALLAH, December 28, 2016 (WAFA) - Preliminary estimates at constant prices showed an increase of 5.2 per cent in gross domestic product (GDP) in Palestine during the third quarter of this year compared to third quarter 2015, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said in a report on preliminary estimates of quarterly national accounts published Wednesday.

It said the increase was 3.9 per cent in the West Bank and 9.7 per cent in the Gaza Strip when compared to third quarter 2015.

However, when compared to second quarter 2016, GDP decreased by 0.4 per cent in Palestine.

GDP for third quarter at constant prices was $1,533.9 million for the West Bank and $489.2 million for Gaza Strip, said the PCBS.

GDP per capita for Palestine at constant prices was $442.9 during third quarter 2016, an increase of 2.3 per cent compared to third quarter 2015.

As for the West Bank, GDP per capita was $572.6 at constant prices during the third quarter, an increase by 1.3 per cent compared to third quarter 2015, while for Gaza Strip it was $259.0 during the third quarter, an increase by 6.1 per cent compared to the same quarter 2015.
