Striking prisoners suspend fast after deal with authorities

RAMALLAH, December 22, 2016 (WAFA) – Two Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike for three months suspended on Thursday their fast following a deal with Israel Prisons Service, according to the head of the Palestinian Detainees’ Commission Issa Qaraqi.

He told WAFA that Anas Shadid and Ahmad Abu Farah have agreed to suspend their hunger strike after the prison authorities said it will not renew their administrative detention after June 1.

Abu Farah, 31, from Surif in the Hebron area, was arrested on August 2 and placed in administrative detention.

Shadid, 19, from Dura, also in the Hebron area, was arrested on the same day as Abu Farah and placed in administrative detention.

Both went on hunger strike on September 25.

The two prisoners were admitted to hospital in Israel following serious deterioration in their health.
