RAMALLAH, July 10, 2016 (WAFA) - The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Sunday issues on the visit of France‘s special envoy for its peace conference initiative, Pierre Vimont to Palestine and his meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah.
Al Ayyam main headline read that Abbas and Vimont disused the French efforts to hold an international peace conference before the end of 2016.
The Palestinian presidency also renewed its supports to the efforts of France and its president François Hollande to jumpstart the peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis.
The three dailies also highlighted clashes that erupted south of the West Bank, due to Israel’s ongoing siege and closure of the Hebron area and over 700,000 Palestinians. A settler was injured in a gun shooting and Israeli forces raided Beit Ummar and blockaded several roads east of Yatta.
The three papers featured calls by Jewish groups to raid Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound and hold a prayer ceremony for the settler who was killed last week in Hebron southern West Bank. Due to the sensitivity of such move, the Israeli police refused to allow such move unless the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave permission.
Al-Ayyam and Al-Hayat Al-Jadida quoted Yaakov Amidror, a former major general and National Security Advisor of Israel as saying: “The Israeli-Turkish reconciliation gives us the right to continue besieging the Gaza Strip.”
Al-Hayat Al-Jadida quoted the Vice President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies – Luigi De Maio as saying: “There is no peace with the existence of the segregation wall” after the meeting with the Mayor of Bethlehem Vera Baboon.
Al-Ayyam reported that Israeli forces arrested a 15 year old Palestinian boy northern “Kisovim” crossing point, and fired shots towards border villages east of Khan Younis in the Gaza strip.
