Israeli Forces Detain 10 Palestinians, Summon Another in West Bank Raids

RAMALLAH, June 23, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Thursday detained at least 10 Palestinians and summoned another, mostly during overnight raids across the West Bank, said Palestine Prisoner’s Society and security sources.

Forces detained four Palestinians after storming and ransacking their family houses in the central West Bank district of Ramallah and al-Bireh.

The detainees were identified as Rami Biram, 35, Mohammad Haddad, 23, Samer Darraj, 23, and Jamal Khasib, 45, whose son, Nasser, a news reporter, was already held in custody.

Meanwhile, forces detained three Palestinians identified as Wahib Dandis, Rashrash Obeidat and Feras Obeidat from Jerusalem district.

WAFA correspondent said that at least unidentified Palestinian was detained during a predawn raid that sparked confrontations with locals youths in al-Ram town, north of Jerusalem.

He added five Israeli military vehicles raided the al-Ram, and opened fire during clashes with local youths until early morning. No injuries were reported though.

This came as Israeli police handed Handai Halawani a notice ordering her to appear before intelligence in al-Maskubiyya detention and interrogation center.

Halawani, an Islamic teacher at Al-Aqsa Mosque, continue to be placed under house arrest for about a month. She had occasionally participated in rallies decrying Israeli restrictions on the entrance of Palestinian Muslim worshipers to the mosque compound.

This came several hours after police detained Ibrahim Abu Ghalieh, 48, after storming and ransacking his family house in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabal al-Zeitoun.

During the raid, police reportedly seized plaques Abu Ghalieh was awarded, five computers and other items belonging to his wife, Khadija, who is already held in custody.

Khadija, a mother of five, had been occasionally barred entry into parts of Jerusalem and from travelling abroad for being active in protesting Israeli restrictions on Palestinian access into the mosque compound.

In the southern West Bank city of Hebron, forces handcuffed and detained Mohammad al-Ja‘bari during a raid.

In the northern West Bank, forces detained  Abdul-Rahim Daoud and Muhammad Qashmar during a raid that triggered clashes with Palestinian locals in Qalqiliya city.

During clashes, soldiers fired tear gas canisters toward locals’ houses. No injuries were reported though.
