JERUSALEM, December 9, 2015 (WAFA) – The Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem Wednesday launched a campaign to remove stores’ signs and signs with Arabic texts in al-Mosrara market near Damascus gate in Jerusalem.

WAFA correspondent said the campaign aims to remove the signs of stores is part of Israel’s attempts to alter the cultural and historical identity of the city and replace it with a Jewish characters on it.

Al-Mosrara market is located in the western part of Jerusalem and extends to the city center in the eastern part. The street is home to many shops and many bakeries, restaurants and hostels take place in al-Mosrara market.

On September 21, 2015, the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem approved a decision to replace the original names of several streets and districts in and outside Jerusalem’s Old City with ‘Hebrew’ names that carry Talmudic references.  

Israel has systematically destroyed Palestinian villages, constructed Israeli settlements, and restricted Palestinian movement between and through Israel as part of its erasure policy of Palestinian culture and identity. 

Sub Laban is one of many Palestinian families that are facing possible eviction from the home they lived in for 61 years in the Old City's Muslim Quarter - which is now inhabited mostly by Jewish settlers.
