RAMALLAH, October 14, 2015 (WAFA) – The fatal shooting of a
Palestinian young man by Israeli forces during clashes in the Bethlehem refugee
camp together with the killing of three Israelis in a spate of attacks across
Israel hit the front page headlines in the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
The three dailies reported that a Palestinian man, identified as Mutaz
Zawahreh, 27, was shot dead by Israeli forces in Bethlehem.
They said Zawahreh was killed while dozens of other Palestinians
were shot and injured during ongoing clashes across the West Bank and Gaza
Strip.
Al-Quds explained that a total of 30 Palestinians, including seven
children, have been fatally shot by Israeli forces since the beginning of
October.
Al-Ayyam added Israeli settlers opened fire on Palestinians’ houses
in Hebron.
Furthermore, the three daily newspapers reported that three Israelis
were killed in four separate attacks in Jerusalem and the northern Israeli city
of Raanana. Two suspected Palestinians were shot dead.
Al-Ayyam explained in this regard that suspected Palestinian
perpetrators were from Jerusalem, and the majority of them came from the
Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukabber.
Furthermore, the three dailies highlighted that tougher measures were
approved and imposed by the Israeli Knesset following the latest spate of
attacks and clashes in Israel and the occupied Palestinian Territories.
Al-Quds said Israeli security approved new ‘security measures’. Meanwhile,
al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida explained in this regard that Israeli
occupation authorities have decided to impose a lockdown on East Jerusalem
neighborhoods.
Al-Ayyam said Israeli occupation authorities have also decided to
boost police and soldiers enforcements across the West Bank and along the Gaza
border.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added in this regard that the Israeli occupation
authorities have also decided to revoke the permanent residency status of
Palestinians and demolish the houses of suspected attackers.
Moreover, the large-scale general strike that was staged in some
Palestinian majority Israeli towns and villages, particularly the northern
Israeli city of Sakhnin, hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.
The reported that tens of thousands of Palestinians took to the
streets in support of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. Moreover, al-Quds
and al-Ayyam published official Palestinian statements decrying the ongoing
killings of Palestinians by Israeli forces.
The Palestinian cabinet was quoted in al-Quds as warning: “Israel
is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Palestinian
people and children.” PLO Secretary-General Saeb Erekat was reported in al-Quds
as calling for an immediate committee of inquiry into Israeli extrajudicial
killings of Palestinians.
Erekat was also reported in al-Quds and al-Ayyam as stating that information
is being collated to refer Israeli extrajudicial killings of Palestinians to
the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Al-Quds
reported on Amnesty International as calling on Israel to respect Palestinians’
right to demonstrate and express their opinions.
The
UN was reported in al-Ayyam as slamming Israel’s use of excessive power. Al-Quds
also reported that Elad settler organization has been granted by the Jerusalem
District Court the right to manage an archeological park near Jerusalem’s al-Buraq
Wall, also known as the Western Wall.
Finally,
al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on Israeli member of Knesset Uri Maklev (United
Torah Judaism) as holding Jews who force their way into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound
responsible for provoking the latest killings of Jewish Israelis.
