RAMALLAH,
October 1, 2014 (WAFA) – Detailed accounts by minor Palestinian prisoners,
incarcerated in Israeli jails, have indicated a surge in maltreatment and
torturing by the Israel authorities before and during their detention and
interrogation, reported Heba Eghbaria, an attorney with the Committee for
Prisoners’ Affairs.
Eghbaria
was allowed to visit a number of inmates in HaSharon Israeli prison, quoting
them as saying that were exposed to torture and physical abuse during their
detention and throughout the course of investigation.
Sixteen-year-old
Awad Za’al, a resident of the Jerusalem neighborhood of al-Abasiya, said not
only he was subjected to physical abuse during investigation, but was also subjected
to strip-search when he was led to the Russian Compound by Israeli Police
officers.
Eghbaria
said Za’al’s case is only an example among dozens of other cases of physical
and psychological abuse being practiced against Palestinian inmates during the
term of imprisonment, especially during investigation.
