RAMALLAH, January 19, 2014 (WAFA) –
The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Sunday issue on the final
statement of the Morocco-based twentieth Al-Quds Committee Meeting in addition
to President Mahmoud Abbas's speech there.
Al-Quds, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida and
Al-Ayyam quoted President Abbas as saying “the decisions taken by the Jerusalem
Committee will support Jerusalem, the holy places and the rights of our
people”.
Al-Quds said the final statement of
the conference stressed that any harm by the Israeli authorities on Al-Aqsa
Mosque and Jerusalem undermines any chances for peace. The statement also said
that achieving Peace in the Middle East requires Jerusalem to be the capital of
the State of Palestine.
Al-Hayat Al-Jadida said the
Jerusalem Committee called upon the international community to uphold its
responsibilities in protecting the city of Jerusalem through pressuring Israel
to stop what it described as “the Israeli colonial practices.”
Al-Ayyam noted to the same news,
saying the Jerusalem Committee warned of the ‘consequences’ of the Israeli
practices in the occupied Palestinian Territory.
In a separate development, Al-Quds
and Al-Ayyam reported that the first shipment of food aid was allowed on
Saturday into the besieged Yarmuk refugee camp near Damascus.
Al-Hayat Al-Jadida said that armed
groups pulled out of the Yarmouk camp on Friday. The newspaper quoted officials
saying that other armed wings are expected to leave in hours.
Al-Ayyam stressed, citing U.S.
sources, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s “willingness for a historical
settlement with the Palestinians on the long run”.
The three newspapers commented on
the results of Egypt’s poll on the post-Muslim Brotherhood constitution, where
98.1% voted in favor, while 1.9% voted against out of a turnout accounting to 38.6%
of the overall electorate.
