UNRWA: 32,000 Palestinians still forcibly displaced from northern West Bank camps

NEW YORK, November 27, 2025 (WAFA) - Director of UNRWA Affairs for the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, Roland Friedrich, said that more than ten months into Israel’s operation ‘Iron Wall’, destruction has been relentless. “Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur Shams camps have been completely emptied by Israeli security forces, with some 32,000 residents remaining forcibly displaced.”

In a post on X, he added: “And yet, even in these ghost towns that were once vibrant camps, Israeli security forces still see the need to order demolitions for the sake of so-called ‘military purposes’.”

“This week again, a demolition order was issued by Israeli security forces for 12 buildings in Jenin Camp, with a further 11 buildings slated for partial demolition. Set to be executed starting on 28 November, this development marks the newest episode in continued efforts to re-engineer the topography of refugee camps in the northern West Bank.”

“This systematic destruction goes against the basic principles of international law, and only serves to tighten the control of Israeli security forces over the camps in the long term. The camps need to be rebuilt – not further destroyed – and their residents allowed to return and restore their lives. They must not be trapped in interminable displacement.”
