Egypt welcomes UN adoption of resolution affirming Palestinian right to self-determination

CARIO, November 20, 2025 (WAFA) – Egypt welcomed the adoption by an overwhelming majority of 164 countries of the annual resolution it submitted to the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly concerning the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. Egypt presented the resolution on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that this broad support reflects the international community's commitment to the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their inalienable right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.

Egypt also affirmed that the resolution clearly enshrines the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting legitimate Palestinian rights and continuing its cooperation with sister nations and international partners to achieve a comprehensive settlement that guarantees the Palestinian people's aspirations for freedom and independence.

The statement emphasized that Egypt will continue working with its regional and international partners to ensure the implementation of US President Donald Trump's peace plan in a way that serves the goal of achieving security and stability and opening a genuine political horizon for the Palestinian people.

It also stressed the importance of the effective implementation of Security Council Resolution 2803 in a way that ensures the consolidation of the ceasefire, supports reconstruction efforts, and opens a political horizon for a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue.
