EU official says West Bank annexation violates international law and undermines two-state solution

BRUSSELS, November 18, 2025 (WAFA) – A senior European official said today that the annexation of the West Bank by the Israeli occupying authorities constitutes a violation of international law and undermines the two-state solution.

Speaking in Brussels, EU spokesperson Anouar El Anouni said during a meeting with a Palestinian media delegation at the European Commission headquarters that the EU is closely monitoring developments in the West Bank, including violations committed by colonists, colonial settlement construction, land seizure, and home demolitions.

He stressed that what is happening in the West Bank is unacceptable and catastrophic, and would undermine the two-state solution, adding that the annexation of the West Bank is a violation of international law.

He also noted that Israel’s withholding of PA tax revenues results in the collapse of services provided by the Palestinian Authority.

Anouni emphasized the need to release the tax revenues in order to enable the PA and ensure its ability to function, noting that the European Union has approved aid packages and plays a significant role as the largest supporter in many fields.

He added that the EU has proposed several punitive measures to confront colonists’ violence, confirming that sanctions were imposed on nine colonists and five colonist entities, three of them in April 2024 and two in July of the same year.
