NEW YORK, October 31, 2025 (WAFA) – Two UN special rapporteurs have sharply criticized the international community’s indifference toward the atrocities committed by Israel against Palestinian women and girls amid the ongoing assault on Gaza.
Reem Alsalem, the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, denounced the world’s silence over the massacres and the horrific suffering endured by Palestinian women.
Speaking at a UN panel in New York on Thursday, Alsalem said, “The massacres being committed against thousands of Palestinian women and girls, and the unspeakable suffering they face, are the clearest proof that the world no longer cares.”
She noted that the scale of brutality inflicted by Israel in Gaza surpasses existing legal and conceptual frameworks, stressing that current terms and conventions are “incapable of capturing the magnitude of the horror Palestinians are enduring.”
Meanwhile, Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories, said the situation in Gaza exposes the “inefficiency and moral failure” of the United Nations.
“The sacrifices of Palestinians reflect the international community’s inability to fulfill the promise of the UN Charter,” Albanese said. “The institution is in a poor state — the United Nations is unable to maintain peace and stability.”
Albanese also criticized UN member states for failing to prevent genocide, urging accountability for governments that have transferred weapons to Israel amid its ongoing onslaught on Gaza.
