Peace Summit kicks off in Egypt’s Sharm El Sheikh with President Abbas’s participation

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, October 13, 2025 (WAFA) – The Peace Summit kicked off Monday in the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump, with the participation of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The summit, attended by heads of state and leaders from 30 countries, is focused on addressing ways to end the war in the Gaza Strip, strengthen efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East, and deliberate on post-war arrangements for the Strip.

Held as part of the President Trump’s plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip and achieve peace in the Middle East, the summit also is attended by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, European Council President António Costa, King of Jordan Abdullah II, French President Emmanuel Macron, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, among others.

In remarks on the sidelines of the summit, President Sisi welcomed the U.S. President and the summit guests, asserting that President Trump is the only one capable of achieving peace in the region.

He emphasized the necessity of ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and the handover of the remains of Israeli abductees to their families.

For his part, President Trump affirmed that Egypt played a highly crucial role in ending the war in Gaza, praising President Sisi's leadership strength and describing him as a "strong leader."

He described President Sisi as a “friend” of his who is a “very powerful leader”.

President Trump noted that phase two of his ceasefire plan has started, noting that Gaza is “full of rubble and debris,” calling for a major cleanup and improving the humanitarian situation for civilians.

The U.S. President highlighted the great importance of Egypt's role in achieving stability and peace in the region, stressing the reinforcement of joint efforts to alleviate the suffering of the population in Gaza and reconstruct the damaged Strip.
