REYKJAVIK, October 12, 2025 (WAFA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Aghabekian Shahin paid an official visit to the Republic of Iceland, the first of its kind, during which she met with President Halla Tómasdóttir, Prime Minister Kristrún Mjöll Frostadóttir, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir.
During the meetings, Minister Shahin stressed the importance of strengthening Palestinian–Icelandic bilateral relations and maintaining Iceland’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Shahin also delivered a written letter from President Mahmoud Abbas to the President of Iceland, conveying the Palestinian leadership’s appreciation for Iceland’s principled stance in supporting justice, human rights, and the Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom and independence.
She further emphasized the importance of aligning U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan with international law and the unity of the occupied Palestinian Territory, considering this a fundamental basis for achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy resolutions.
