Despite declared ceasefire, Israeli airstrike and artillery shelling target city of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza

GAZA, October 10, 2025, WAFA – Despite the declared ceasefire that went into effect after midnight, Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike at dawn today on the city of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.

WAFA correspondent said that Israeli occupation forces shelled the Al-Katiba area in central Khan Yunis with several artillery rounds, coinciding with the flight of drones over the city.

Israeli warplanes also launched a violent airstrike targeting the center of Khan Yunis at dawn.

The Israeli occupation government officially approved after midnight on Friday the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

The office of Israeli Occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the government formally endorsed the proposal presented by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the two-year war in Gaza.

Netanyahu’s office added that the government approved the general framework for the release of all hostages.

With the Israeli occupation government’s approval of the agreement, the ceasefire officially entered into force.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday night the conclusion of an agreement to implement the first phase of his plan to achieve peace in the Middle East, which stipulates ending the war in Gaza, the withdrawal of the occupation forces, the entry of humanitarian aid, and the release of all Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation forces have waged a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in the killing of more than 67,000 civilians and the wounding of nearly 170,000 others, the majority of whom are children and women. The famine that continues to devastate the Strip has also claimed the lives of 460 civilians, including 154 children.
