GENEVA, October 3, 2025 (WAFA) – Mothers and newborn babies in Gaza are facing catastrophic conditions as hospitals run out of space and critical supplies amid Israel’s escalating military assault, UNICEF warned Friday.
"The situation for mothers and newborns in Gaza has never been worse. In Nasser Hospital, we're seeing hospital corridors lined with women who've just given birth," said UNICEF spokesperson James Elder, speaking to reporters in Geneva via video link from Gaza.
The World Health Organization (WHO) also sounded the alarm, saying Gaza’s healthcare system is on the brink of collapse.
Dr. Rik Peeperkorn, WHO’s representative in the occupied Palestinian Territory, said he had never seen Nasser Hospital so overcrowded, as thousands of displaced patients fleeing the Israeli onslaught in Gaza City head south.
