RAMALLAH, September 20, 2025 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed Portugal’s decision to officially recognize the State of Palestine on Sunday, considering it a courageous step that is consistent with international law and United Nations resolutions and supports efforts to achieve peace and implement the two-state solution.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry expressed gratitude to all countries that have announced their intention to recognize the State of Palestine.
It called on countries that have not yet recognized the initiative to recognize the State of Palestine to protect the two-state solution, actively engage in international efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire, protect civilians, and open a negotiated political process to end the occupation and enable the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination, in accordance with the New York Declaration, the Advisory Opinion issued by the International Court of Justice, and international law.
The Ministry affirmed, "This will achieve security, stability, and prosperity for the countries and peoples of the region."
