VALLETTA, September 19, 2025 (WAFA) – Malta on Friday formally notified President Mahmoud Abbas of its intention to recognize the State of Palestine during the upcoming UNGA conference in New York.
The Permanent Secretary at Malta’s Foreign Ministry, Christopher Cutajar, handed over an official letter to Palestinian Ambassador to Malta, Fadi Hanania, from Prime Minister Robert Abela, affirming his country’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine during next week’s UNGA in New York.
In the letter, as reported by Malta Today, Prime Minister Abela reiterated Malta’s “steadfast support” for the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people. He also confirmed that the government will make its recognition of Palestinian statehood official during the 80th UNGA session.
