RAMALLAH, September 9, 2025 (WAFA) – Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin on Tuesday called on the Netherlands to recognize the State of Palestine.
Minister Shahin made this call, which she described as an essential step to safeguarding the two-state solution, during a phone call with her Dutch counterpart, David van Weel.
Minister Shahin briefed her Dutch counterpart on the latest political and humanitarian developments in the occupied Palestinian territory and the grave situation in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip resulting from the unrelenting Israeli aggression, underscoring that the sole path to peace lies in bringing the occupation to an end and realizing the establishment of the independent State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as per the two-state solution principle.
For his part, Minister van Weel reaffirmed that the Palestinian question is a priority for him, stressing his country’s commitment to playing a constructive role in support of the Palestinian Authority.
He noted that the Netherlands would participate at the highest level in the upcoming International Peace Conference in New York and would continue to exert pressure towards achieving a ceasefire.
He further stated that the Dutch government has allocated a budget to support the provision of humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
