CAIRO, September 5, 2025 (WAFA) – Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said today that the collective Arab stance in the coming period will focus on stopping Israel’s war of genocide against the Palestinian people and safeguarding the project of an independent Palestinian state.
Speaking at a joint press conference with UAE Minister of State Khalifa Al Marar at the conclusion of the regular session of the Arab League Council at the level of foreign ministers, Aboul Gheit said that Egypt and Saudi Arabia had submitted a draft resolution on Arab cooperation in the Middle East, which includes key principles and foundations.
He explained that the resolution, adopted during the session, encapsulates the Arab position on the Palestinian issue. It reaffirms the sovereignty of Arab states and rejects any Israeli insinuations that undermine that sovereignty, while also stressing the commitment to a two-state solution as the only path to resolving regional tensions and achieving stability and prosperity.
Aboul Gheit noted that the Saudi-Egyptian resolution sparked extensive discussions and urged that it be read carefully, as it includes meaningful provisions condemning any proposals that threaten the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab states, and reiterates the necessity of ending Israeli occupation of Arab territories.
He added that the council reviewed all aspects of the Palestinian issue, with consensus among Arab ministers that the Israeli plan goes beyond genocide to an attempt to liquidate the Palestinian cause, forcibly displace the Palestinian people, and move toward the annexation of the West Bank.
The ministers, he said, stressed that no regional cooperation, integration, or peaceful coexistence can be expected while Israeli occupation of Arab land persists or while there are implicit threats to occupy or annex additional Arab territories.
Aboul Gheit underlined the need to address the root causes of the regional conflict, especially by pursuing a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue.
In response to a question about Arab efforts at the United Nations in support of Palestine—despite the U.S. refusing to issue visas for the Palestinian delegation—Aboul Gheit said the Arab foreign ministers' resolution calls on the United States to reconsider its decision in line with its international obligations.
He added that Arab countries are committed to pursuing both individual and collective diplomatic efforts to influence Washington and convince it to change its position regarding the Palestinian delegation.
