RAMALLAH, August 27, 2026 (WAFA) – The government of the Republic of Korea announced it will provide $30 million to support emergency humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the World Food Programme (WFP).
The announcement was made during an official ceremony in Ramallah, attended by the Minister of Social Development and Relief, Samah Hamad, the Representative of the Republic of Korea to the State of Palestine, Young Kul Koh, Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Ramiz Alakbarov, and representatives of UN agencies benefiting from the funding.
During the ceremony, the minister affirmed the Palestinian government’s commitment to its responsibilities in Gaza despite limited resources, noting that the government is leading a coordinated humanitarian response and is ready to act immediately in partnership with the international community.
This contribution comes amid an unprecedented humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where thousands of families are forcibly displaced, children are deprived of their right to education, and entire communities face severe challenges in accessing food, shelter, water, and healthcare.
The contribution demonstrates the Republic of Korea’s strong commitment to partnership and solidarity with the Palestinian people during this crisis. This financial aid will be delivered through the Palestinian government in coordination with relevant ministries, ensuring the national leadership of the humanitarian response, aligned with national priorities, and addressing the urgent needs of those directly impacted.
Addressing the ceremony, the Republic of Korea’s representative to the State of Palestine stated that this year, the Korean government launched major humanitarian programs in several of the most crisis-affected regions and countries. He noted that Gaza is a key focus of these initiatives and that the three projects, totaling $30 million, will serve as a vital lifeline for the Palestinian people in Gaza during this critical period.
