Russia urges Israel to ensure humanitarian aid access in Gaza

MOSCOW, August 26, 2025 (WAFA) – The Russian Foreign Ministry said that famine in the Gaza Strip has reached record levels, calling on the Israeli occupation authorities to take urgent measures to prevent the situation from worsening and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the ministry indicated that, according to estimates, the famine will extend to Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah by the end of September.

It explained that the rapidly deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip could threaten the lives of 132,000 children under age of five, including 41,000 children suffering from severe malnutrition.

It added, "The Russian side calls on the Israeli authorities to take urgent measures to prevent the situation from worsening, to establish a ceasefire, to ensure unhindered access to humanitarian aid, and to deliver the necessary humanitarian assistance, including food, to all those in need."

It noted that UN Security Council member states are planning a new initiative to agree on a draft resolution on Gaza that focuses on overcoming the humanitarian catastrophe. Adding,  "Moscow awaits the adoption of such a document this time."

Medical sources reported that the total number of deaths due to famine and malnutrition has risen to 303, including 117 children.
