RAMALLAH, August 18, 2025 (WAFA) – Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen said her country is waiting for the right moment to recognize the state of Palestine.
Earlier this month, Finnish President Alexander Stubb announced his willingness to agree to recognize the State of Palestine if his government submitted an official proposal, denouncing the inhumane situation in the Gaza Strip.
Stubb wrote in a post on X that the decisions of countries such as France, Canada, and the United Kingdom reinforce the trend toward recognizing Palestine, noting that this step comes "within the framework of efforts to revive the peace process."
Many Western countries, including France, Canada, and the United Kingdom, are moving toward recognizing the state of Palestine, especially ahead of the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Finland has announced its joining these countries, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian channels.
