CAIRO, August 11, 2025 (WAFA) – The Arab Republic of Egypt welcomed the announcement by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of his country's intention to recognize the State of Palestine.
Egypt affirmed that this historic step supports the restoration of Palestinian rights and enables the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination by establishing an independent, contiguous state on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry affirmed that this remarkable decision, along with similar decisions by other countries recently, constitutes a pivotal step toward establishing a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
It reflects growing international support for the Palestinian people and their just cause, and its complete rejection of Israeli policies and practices in the occupied territories, including the policy of starvation and the expansion of aggression in the Gaza Strip, which fuel hatred and contribute to the spread of extremism and instability in the region.
Egypt praised the recent international movement toward recognizing the State of Palestine, stressing that the time has come for other countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to accelerate this step in support of humanity and justice.
It also renewed its call on the international community to make further serious and effective efforts to end the Israeli occupation of the occupied Palestinian territories and implement the two-state solution, which would end to the decades-long suffering of the Palestinian people and ensure security and stability for all peoples of the region.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia welcomed Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s announcement of his country’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine.
It also praised the international consensus supporting the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
