Russia says its reocgnition of Palestine helped preserve the two-state solution

MOSCOW, July 31, 2025 (WAFA) – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said that Russia's recognition of the State of Palestine contributed to preserving the possibility of a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

He added in a press statement that Russia has developed its relations with Palestine, and the Palestinian Embassy has been operating in Moscow since 1990.

Vershinin continued: "The two-state solution remains the most reliable and only option for resolving this long-standing conflict, and Russia has always called for a permanent settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on recognized international law."

He called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, noting that Russia raised this issue during bilateral meetings with participants in the high-level international conference to support a settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Vershinin said: "We met with many of the participants in this conference, including with representatives of the United Nations, in particular Secretary-General António Guterres, and discussed the two-state solution and how we can best achieve a real and just peace in the Middle East.

This is a strategic goal, and the urgent task is to stop the bloodshed, which is unfortunately taking place today, especially in the Gaza Strip, with a large number of victims and severe suffering among the civilian population."
